Is there any recourse for being hired under false pretenses?

I relocated from California to Nevada 3 weeks ago for a job. Yesterday, my boss told me that he made me was a mistake. That the owner of the company did not approve the offer he made me and that my compensation will be cut 60%! Then the Human Resource Director told me that I was hired under 'false pretenses'. Can employers do this?
