My toes appear to have a problem.?

I have been worried about some trouble in my toes for the past few days. It all started when one of my toe nails had what looks like red mark on it. It wasn't really all that much of a problem so I ignored it. A few days later while I was on a walk, I felt my large toe and my second toe rubbing against each other and the sock which resulted in a burning sensation and I soon returned home and took off my shoes and socks and checked the foot. The larger toe has what looks to be a form of red bump on the back (which itches on occasion). Also, on the other finger with red mark which had been rubbing against the big finger, there appears to be a brown mark along where it was rubbing against the large one and the tip under the nail has become whitish. My parents say it might be foot fungus and are giving me treatment for it. Is this true or are these symptoms of something else? All help is much appreciated.
