Fake tanner peeling problem?

I have used only one fake tanner my whole life and with my bad luck I picked jergens that not only is greasy but it turned me orange. Aside from that, it would rub off when I took showers or shaved my legs. Now I'm looking into more expensive self tanners such as sun labs which has a great reputation but I'm scared it will peel off or rub off again. Did I do something wrong or what can I do to avoid this?
