Certain earrings cause my earlobes to itch, what can I do to sooth them?

Sometimes when I wear certain earrings, my earlobes start to itch. What can I use to sooth that itchy feeling? Is rubbing alcohol good? I realize I might be allergic, but I am not sure. Thanks for your help in advance. Anyone else get this with earrings?
