In most Mosques, do people sit on the floor or in chairs? Which did your Prophet prefer?

We sit on the floor mostly, however there are usually some chairs around the outside for those who cannot sit on the floor for whatever reason, ie ill health, old age, late pregnancy etc and they can use the chairs to sit on while praying also.
